We are Jo and James and we have lived in Hurstpierpoint for the past 12 years, along with our two children - Finn and Roxy. We are both big foodies and enjoy a love of wine! Having originally trained as a chef, James has worked in the wine trade for the past 20 years, whilst Jo has worked in marketing.
When the pandemic hit, Jo was working in the travel industry. Furlough and redundancy therefore followed. During this time, we decided to trial a food delivery pop-up in Hurst - The Village Kitchen. Following its success, we made the decision to further develop the concept and Village Pizza Kitchen was born.
We spent many months developing dough and recipes in the kitchen at home and sampled a lot of pizza! We had a clear ethos from the outset, which was to showcase amazing British produce and to support local producers. So, having carried out lots of research and eaten a great deal of delicious produce, we found what we believed to be the winning combination of ingredients to finalise the Village Pizza Kitchen menu.
Almost all of our key ingredients are homegrown, from the flour we use in our pizza dough, to the chillies in our homemade chilli oil and the Buffalo Mozzarella used on our Margherita pizza. Our meat and charcuterie is from nearby Ashurst and all of our cheeses are British, with many being made locally in Sussex.
Other things that are really important to us are providing excellent value, great service and being socially conscious. This is why we use highly energy efficient electric deck ovens, sustainable packaging and electric mopeds for delivery.
At the heart of Village Pizza Kitchen however is simply a love of producing delicious food and we are very proud to work alongside our team of amazing chefs, who share this passion in equal measure!
Local delivery is available this evening (Saturday 18 September) between 5.30pm & 8.30pm in Hurstpierpoint, Hassocks, Albourne, Sayers Common & Keymer.
